A Portrait Session for the Most Adorable New Member of the Family

When we photographed this couple’s wedding all the way back in 2011, they wanted to have a baby. They waited patiently, and kept waiting, until nearly giving up, when finally they got some good news. After a challenging pregnancy, and the constant demands of modern family life for 9 more months of waiting, they finally got their wish and welcomed the newest member of their family, Emma, into the world.

It has been such a special thing to watch this family grow, and a real privilege to call these people friends, so I was gushing when they asked us to come and commemorate the new baby’s birth with a newborn portrait session. Now, while I have personally created many of this family’s images, I felt that Felipe was better suited for this particular session, and they agreed. He did not disappoint! Felipe has an astounding manner when shooting that helps him create images that look both natural and candid, but also well considered and polished. And everyone seems to love working with him!

Because his smallest subject can’t retain body heat quite like those of us who’ve had some time to put meat on our bones, they opted to hold the session in their family home. Using an off camera light, a shallow depth of field, family heirlooms and wedding rings, Felipe blended natural light with some of his own to create these truly stunning images. Check out some of our favorite photos from their session together, below.
