Where should I start with these two? Kayla and Colin had two very different ideas of the kinds of portraits they wanted.
They are both brilliant classical musicians — dapper and elegant. Easily pictured spending weekends tapping glasses and rubbing elbows with high society outside the Kennedy Center. But also big ‘ole “nerds”, with a penchant for video games, board games, arcades and retro night clubs. They really wanted their engagement session to highlight this stark sort of duality in their personalities and the path of least resistance was to… well, just have two engagement sessions.
Our first session was held at the sprawling Brookside Gardens in Bethesda, which is absolutely stunning: Sprawling gardens, winding paths, spectacularly manicured beds and stone features. We spent nearly an hour and a half perusing the landscape.
Then, two days later, we met for a second time in DC at the Players Club where they have a relationship that earned us off-hours access to the facility. The style of photos almost couldn’t be more different and the contrast between the two is almost a perfect mirror of Colin and Kayla’s personality.
