Felipe had a sweet opportunity to capture some unforgettable memories for Katey, Hector, and their son at Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis. If you’re not familiar, Quiet Waters is a sprawling park with tons of beautiful nooks and crannies to take photos, not to mention some truly amazing sweeping views. Most of the richest photo opportunities are just a short distance from one another. Even so, it’s still a big park and it might not be the best option for people with mobility concerns.
Katey and Hector’s family portrait session was a gift from a group of friends, as they hadn’t taken any photos since their son was born. Felipe spent most of their time in the terraced garden near the Blue Heron Center, which offered an excellent backdrop as the trees were turning yellow and orange. We made a special point to edit the photos to highlight these striking colors.
At first, Katey and Hector’s son was a bit shy around the camera, but he quickly warmed up as they played with him on benches throughout the park. One of our favorite photos from the session is of Katey chasing her son down a path, which came out looking like a shot from an old Charlie Chaplin film. It’s one of those sort of off-beat photos that you couldn’t plan, and some magic of the moment just brought it to life. There is a funny depiction of what it’s like to be the parents of a small child hidden in there.
They also had fun in the butterfly garden, playing with bubbles which the little one loved. As the session was coming to an end, Katey and Hector strapped their son into his car seat and had a few photos taken just the two of them–an opportunity new parents know is rare. I have to say, these photos turned out great, and are a testament to Felipe’s talent how good they look, even though they were in a parking lot and their car was just out of view.
