Family & Newborn sessions come in all shapes and sizes! For this couple, we approached the session from a wholistic standpoint. It wasn’t a portrait session for a newborn baby, it was a a portrait session for a newborn family, aimed at preserving the sense of excitement, happiness—and yes, anxiety—that makes up the life of a new parent and the family the new baby together makes them.
We first got to work with this couple during their wedding at Johns Hopkins University back in 2015. Now, resettled from Baltimore to northern Virginia, the family is growing and I was excited when I heard the news. And even more so when I learned we’d be able to catch up over a portrait session together.
The session started inside, as we constructed natural looking images out of the real environments that will eventually become a backdrop for some of life’s most profound memories. In order to make a well rounded collection of images, we were also sure to capture a few quick photos outside, in spite of the cold, as well revisit a few couple’s images before the demands of parenthood thoroughly take over.
Needless to say, this session was just as refreshing and wonderful as I expected it would be and the images turned out naturally and beautifully. Check out some of our favorites from this session below, and if you’re interested in having someone come and commemorate this time in your life, take a look at the Portraits page here on our website!
