This Family Portrait Session in the National Arboretum

Back in October, Felipe got together with this beautiful family for an annual portrait session to keep the photos on the wall up to date! Felipe first worked with this family in 2014, when they took photos in their home. Since then, as the boys have been growing up, they have been branching out and having the session in new places. This most recent time, they paid a visit to the National Arboretum in Washington DC.

The National Arboretum is a beautiful backdrop for a session. It features huge winding trails, thematic gardens, historic buildings and even ‘ruins’. It comes with some trade offs, however. Most importantly, the operating hours fluctuate and they are rarely open in the late afternoon. Additionally, photographers are strictly prohibited from using any kind of ‘set up’. In other words, a photographer at the Arboretum cannot bring a tripod or lights that have to go on stands, or even bags that have to be left on the ground. Just a photographer, and a camera, and your family. For a lot of people, that trade off is well worth it for such a sprawling and unique location. For others, who need things to be as simple as possible, it might not be the best option.
