As a rule of thumb, we like when a family portrait session is able to meander and find itself, rather than being strictly organized shot by shot. Lucky for us, when it comes to shooting with kids, meandering is about the only option without totally ruining their day. That was definitely the case with this family session Felipe photographed a couple months ago.
They started the session inside, then followed the kids outside where it was a little too cold to stay long, and then came back inside for some more. This kind of thing is also one of the benefits to holding a session at home. Where some park or interesting garden is a great option, if it’s too cold or the kids get dirty, there’s nothing you can do about it. But at home, the kids are comfortable and the circumstances can be changed quickly to adapt to their moods and keep the session going.
These kinds of sessions require the photographer to be incredibly quick acting and adaptive, and Felipe did a great job keeping up with the kids here.
