About  Lake Artemesia

Lake Artemesia is a beautiful natural space located in College Park, Maryland. The lake was created in the 1970s and is named after the Greek goddess of hunting and wilderness, Artemis. It covers an area of approximately 38 acres and is surrounded by a well-maintained park that provides ample opportunities for outdoor activities and photography.

One of the key features of Lake Artemesia is the wooden boardwalk pathways that meander through some of the most picturesque areas of the park. These pathways wind through tall grasses and wildflowers, providing a perfect backdrop for portraits. The wooden boardwalks also make it easier to traverse some of the areas that are wet or muddy.

While the wide bike paths that crisscross the park are not the most visually interesting for portraits, there are plenty of hidden nooks and crannies that offer unique photo opportunities. These areas include secluded pockets of trees, small streams, and rocky outcroppings.

Due to the size of the park, it’s best to decide on a shooting location before arriving. This will help to ensure that the photographer is able to take advantage of the best lighting and scenery that the park has to offer. It’s also important to note that on days when the weather is nice, especially during the spring and fall, some of the most picturesque areas of the park can become quite crowded. As such, it’s best to plan a portrait session during the week and, if possible, in the morning before the crowds arrive.
